Day 1 - Western History

We travel north to central Arizona by way of two stops. First, we tour and taste at Glendale’s famed Cerreta Candy Company. You’ll learn how the chocolate is made, sample and perhaps purchase some holiday goodies. We continue to a delicious lunch at Rancho de los Caballeros and tour the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. Here you’ll learn about the history and stories of the West. After checking in for our 3-night stay at the Hampton Inn Prescott, enjoy an independent evening and dinner.

Day 2 - Holiday Touring in Prescott

Step into the heart of Prescott with a walking tour of Courthouse Plaza, followed by a journey through time at the Sharlot Hall Museum. Opened in 1928 as the Old Governor’s Mansion Museum, it is dedicated to preserving the history and folklore of Yavapai County. It is also known for its Victorian Christmas celebration. The event features traditional decorations, music, and storytelling, providing a nostalgic holiday experience.

Savor an independent lunch amidst the charming ambiance of Courthouse Plaza. The afternoon unfolds with a visit to the historic Elks Theater. This evening, we return to Hassayampa Inn for an exquisite dinner before experiencing the JS Acker Musical Extravaganza downtown.  The nearly 80 shops, boutiques and local businesses around the town square host various musical talents. You will hear jazz, classical, country, pop and bluegrass while strolling around Courthouse Plaza enjoying the sights and sounds of Christmas.

Day 3 - Rail Adventure at Verde Canyon

Stop at the Copper Spike Café to pick up an independent lunch. The highlight of the day is the Verde Canyon Railroad Excursion, a journey that takes you through the stunning landscapes of Arizona’s backcountry. Aboard the historic train, you’ll traverse scenic canyons, verdant river gorges, and ancient Indian ruins, all while enjoying your lunch amidst breathtaking views. The day concludes with a farewell dinner at The Finn.

Day 4 - Music & Home

On your final day, take a tour at the Musical Instrument Museum, showcasing an impressive array of over 15,000 global musical instruments. Enjoy a leisurely independent lunch at Café Allegro within the museum. The adventure concludes as you arrive back in Tucson.

ACTIVITY LEVEL

Activity Level 3: Moderate.

Expectations: Expect a moderate amount of walking. There will be time to rest on the coach and between attractions. To enjoy this tour, you should be prepared to walk slightly longer distances, climb stairs and tolerate periods of standing, for example on city walks, sightseeing stops or ship excursions. The daily pace and timing can fluctuate significantly between longer and shorter travel days, with additional activities possibly occurring in the early morning or evening. There may be some changes in altitude or temperatures.

Appropriate for: Most travelers beginning with those who are moderately fit, lead semi-active lives, are comfortable participating in long days of activities and expect some physical exertion.

For your reference, we send to you a detailed itinerary approximately 3-4 weeks prior to the scheduled tour departure. This has day-by-day times and events, hotel information where you can be reached in case of an emergency, and airline information.

The times listed on the itinerary are all approximate. We cannot be held responsible for schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances with weather, transportation agents, highway conditions, hotels or contracting agents.

EMERGENCY CONTACT

It is always a good idea to carry on your person a list of medications that you are taking and an emergency contact phone number while you are traveling. And we suggest making a copy of the itinerary and provide it to a friend or family member.

GRATUITIES/ITEMS INCLUDED IN PRICE

The traditional end-of-tour gratuity to your tour director is included on this tour. All hotel porterage and airport skycap (when available) fees are included. We also include the gratuities for the coach/livery drivers. Hotel housekeeping tips are not included.

LIVERY

For your convenience we have a (round-tour) door-to-door pickup service with each multi-day tour. (This service is not available to all clients depending on your location.) Approximately 2 to 3 days prior to the departure date you will receive a call from our office and we will tell you your assigned pickup time.

LODGING REQUESTS

If you would like to request special accommodations at the hotel(s) where we are lodging, please call us as soon as possible and we will forward these requests for you. The phone numbers of the hotel(s) where we are staying are listed on the itinerary.

Many hotels around the country have instituted a "reconditioning fee" of $300 or more that is levied upon a guest that smokes in a non-smoking room. If this occurs during our tour you will be responsible for paying this fee to the hotel prior to check-out.

WEATHER AND CLOTHING/MISC. SUGGESTIONS

Prescott is at approx. 5368' in elevation. The average daytime high temperatures during our December stay in Prescott is typically in the upper 40's and the average night-time temperature is usually upper 20's. Please be sure to bring a heavier sweater and / or winter jacket, along with good walking shoes, hat and gloves. With any luck we will have some snow. There are no dress codes for the areas we take you to on this tour.
